It Just Keeps Getting Better- Week 4
Another really good week here in Hawaii. I swear it only gets better every week! Lots of cool teaching experiences, lots of acai bowls, and lots of meeting new people.
Last week I met a boy online at the Teaching Center. He SAID he wanted to learn about the Book of Mormon, but turns out he just wanted to talk to missionaries who are girls and who are single. Needless to say he wasn't actually interested in the Book of Mormon and we had to block him hahahah! It's crazy to me the things people will say to you when they're talking through a screen.
Monday night we had the closing shift at the Visitor Center. It was a pretty slow night until a couple walked in. They just wanted to watch videos in the theatre so we spent about an hour there showing them lots of different videos. About half way through, my companion told me that it was President Nelson's daughter in the theatre with us….WHAT!!! No wonder the spirit was so strong as we were talking to her about her family (she must have forgot to mention who her dad was. Whoops)
There are two missionaries serving here at the Visitor Center from Tonga. Due to Tonga’s borders being closed they haven't been able to go home from their missions. They have been serving for THREE YEARS! Yes, you heard that right! They are going on 36 months of being a missionary and are the longest serving sister missionaries. On Friday, they finally got their Visas switched and are able to be released as missionaries and can now be students at BYU-H. Whenever missionaries leave they bear their testimonies, we sing a song called Aloha Oe (it means Goodbye, Till We Meet Again), and everyone goes and puts a lei around their neck. It was honestly the most special thing to be apart of. Everyone there was in tears. I looked at another Sister and said to her, “I don't even know why I'm crying, I didn't even know them super well”. After, she looked at me and said “You don't need to know them to be able to feel their sweet spirit” Wow. That is so true!
One last story! We had a virtual tour this week with a group from Brazil. It was kind of hard because the whole tour had to be translated into Portuguese (another reason Sister Orison should be reassigned here), but even with the language barrier it was still so awesome to meet people from all over the world. Virtual tours are awesome. Sign up for one.
Serving at a temple is seriously the best thing ever. In Come Follow Me this week, it talks a little about temples being central in our lives. The greatest blessings in life come from the temple and there is no place on earth we can feel closer to our Savior than at the temple. Make an appointment and go to the temple. I PROMISE you won't regret it. Also, do the Come Follow Me for this week...and forever. It's the best!
