Stuck In Quarantine...

Image
I’ve had a wild week here in Hawaii that consisting of... staying home. All that I can say is that I have a whole new level of respect for the missionaries who had to quarantine for weeks and even months at a time!  Because all the Visitor Center Sisters do so much together, if one goes down, we all go down! Unfortunately, it was my companion who go sick :( She couldn't come out of our room and I couldn't go in. Luckily we live with 7 other sisters, so I had people to keep me company while we were stuck in our house.  My schedule looked like this: personal study, contacting, personal study, lunch, personal study…. you get the point!! After 3 days of staying home (it seemed like 3 months), we were free to leave!  One of the coolest things about serving in Hawaii is all of the different cultures we get to experience. We get fed so many different types of food and meet so many different groups of people.  Last night we were able to have Vietnamese food for dinner. It wa...

Elder Holland Takes On Hawaii

Sorry this is a little bit late, but my mom was not about to let a week go by without me sending an email out hahah! It's been a good week here in Hawaii! I think I have talked to more people who are from Utah this week than those who are actually from here in Hawaii, I love it though!  It's like it was fall break or something at home. Like I mentioned last week, one of the boys in our area who we are teaching is named Travail! Cutest kid, oh my! He loves basketball and wears the same yellow Pokemon pajamas every time we see him. He is getting baptized on November 13th! We asked him who he wanted to baptize him and he said “my mom”, we unfortunately had to tell him that wasn't going to work. He must have short term memory loss because we told him about the priesthood about 7 minutes earlier! Anyways, love that kid!  Elder Holland & Elder Christofferson were in Laie this week for the BYU Hawaii Inauguration. I wish i could say I saw them, but that most definitely did not...

Read It, It's A Good One!

Alright, let's get straight to the point! Yesterday was Zone Conference and it was the best!! All of the missionaries on the Island of Oahu go to Honolulu and meet in the Honolulu Tabernacle. There were 11 zones there! It's so fun to see missionaries from all over the Island and to see President and Sister Walker! The Conference was all about finding and having the faith to know that people are prepared to hear the Gospel and that those people are out there! Towards the end of President Walkers training, he told us that he had the strongest feeling we needed to go out and contact people.  Side note: our mission is doing what's called “Moroni miracle month”. It was around this time of year 198 years ago when Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith!  Soooo we have been focusing a lot on the First Vision and Joseph Smith and we have a goal of getting 104 baptisms in the month of October (one per companionship). Alright back to the story, our mission President told us that he knew ther...

Bonjour!

Hey guys, what's up? I miss you all!  I have a few cool stories from this week so this email might get a little long. Sorry about that!      Ok, first story: We had lunch with a family in our ward after General Conference on Sunday! It was a Samoan family and they gave us an "authentic Samoan meal that you can only get on the Islands''. It's a good thing you can only get it on the Island, because it was bad! My companion and I both tried to eat it but it was pretty bad. It's called “Ulu" (breadfruit) and you dip it in coconut milk (it sounds a lot better than it is) and then to drink we had Coco Milk... which tasted like a cup of warm water with a bunch of cocoa powder in it. I don't recommend it! There is a reason God didn't send me to Samoa to serve my mission!      Second story: There is a man named John who is a student at BYU Hawaii who comes into the Visitor Center every 6 weeks and gets a new Book of Mormon. He always asks for the book in a ...
