Read It, It's A Good One!
Alright, let's get straight to the point! Yesterday was Zone Conference and it was the best!! All of the missionaries on the Island of Oahu go to Honolulu and meet in the Honolulu Tabernacle. There were 11 zones there! It's so fun to see missionaries from all over the Island and to see President and Sister Walker! The Conference was all about finding and having the faith to know that people are prepared to hear the Gospel and that those people are out there! Towards the end of President Walkers training, he told us that he had the strongest feeling we needed to go out and contact people.
Side note: our mission is doing what's called “Moroni miracle month”. It was around this time of year 198 years ago when Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith! Soooo we have been focusing a lot on the First Vision and Joseph Smith and we have a goal of getting 104 baptisms in the month of October (one per companionship).
Alright back to the story, our mission President told us that he knew there were people out on the streets within a mile of the Tabernacle who were prepared to hear the Gospel and today would change their life. He then told us we needed to spend the next 30 minutes contacting them. He invited us to share the first vision, bear our testimony, and then invite them to be baptized by the end of the month. I know, INSANE!! Within just one conversation we are supposed to meet them and also invite them to be baptized.
So all of the 150-ish missionaries got up and started spreading in every direction from the Tabernacle. It was insane, missionaries were literally taking over the city! Serving at a Visitor Center the only contacting we do is people who come up to us, so my companion and I felt super weird just going up to everyone we saw. I can now honestly say I know what rejection feels like. People would just pretend they didn't see us, they would laugh at us and allll that! BUT thats not all, there was a boy coming towards us on his Bird scooter. We got him to stop and just started to talk to him. His name is Benson and he goes to a Catholic School in Honolulu. We talked about Jesus for a second and then I shared the First Vision with him! My companion bore her testimony and then I asked if he would like to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by the power and authority of God. HE SAID YES!!! We were so shocked. We then got his number, gave him a Book of Mormon and shared the end of the introduction! Because we aren't in the Honolulu zone we can't teach him, but the local missionaries are able to and he is on a date to be baptized October 30th! I'll keep ya updated!
We all came back to the Tabernacle and spent the next hour sharing all of the miracles we saw in just 30 minutes. 13 people were invited to be baptized and said YES. Out of those 13, some will fall through and some won't be ready, but it was so cool to see how many people were open to the idea of being baptized and how they truly were prepared to receive the Gospel! I might have gotten the two biggest blisters (closed toed shoes) but it was one of the coolest experiences!
We are currently teaching a 9 year old boy in our ward (Travail…cutest kid ever) and a 17 year old boy named Neal in our ward, as well! We also have had lots of lessons with members this week! We basically had dinner with the family from Cheaper by the Dozen, so that was fun! Kids were everywhere, I loved it though!
“Miracles are an extension of God's Eternal Plan; miracles are a lifeline from Heaven to Earth” when you notice them you will notice God's hand in your life and the ways he confirms his LOVE to you! MIRACLES ARE EVERYWHERE!
With much love, Sister Crowley
